4.7.5. Translation Memory
With translation memory software, you can compare a text to be translated with texts that have previously been translated and their translations. This helps you make the best re-use of previous translations and avoids retranslating texts that have already been translated.
While terminology work is not the intended use for translation memories, you can also use the search capabilities of translation memory software to search previously translated texts for terms or textual supports that could be useful for a record, or even for confirming information found in other sources. Translation memory programs are often offered in suites that also include terminology databases, which also facilitates the management of the collection of terminology acquired.
