In this lesson, you will learn about the place of terminology within the language industries.

The increasing automation of the terminology workflow is just one way in which terminology work is being modernized.

Other innovations include:

• Networking of terminology data banks and terminology databases.
• Creation of sites for exchanging information and terminological products.
• Access to directories of terminology and translation service providers on the Internet.
• Joint action with the terminological sectors in large international organizations and the national organizations of member countries.

Because of the integration of information through these tools and products, terminology work has become both an important component of the language industries and a critical means of attaining goals related to the globalization of products and services in today's society. It is also a means of localizing or adapting these products and services for use in local markets.
