4.14 Modes of transportation
Capitalize the names of types of aircraft, the names of makes of cars and other modes of transportation, and the names of individual ships, locomotives, spacecraft, etc.:
- the Cessna-7
- a Boeing 747
- the Bricklin
- Mariner IV

In Department of National Defence documents, the names of ships and submarines are written entirely in upper case, e.g. HMCS DONNACONA.

6.07 Modes of transportation
Italicize the names given to individual ships, spacecraft, aircraft and trains but not articles, etc. preceding them:
- the Spirit of St. Louis
- the spacecraft Challenger
- the Rapido

In Department of National Defence documents, names of ships are written entirely in upper case and are not italicized:
- HMCS ATHABASKAN
- HMCS SACKVILLE
