OBS

WHO (World Health Organization) has launched an ambitious new programme - the African Programme for Onchocerciasis Control (APOC) - in close cooperation with the World Bank, the governments of 16 participating countries where the disease exists but which were not covered by the earlier programme, and a consortium of bilateral donors and nongovernmental development organizations (NGDOs). This new programme (which became operational in January 1996) aims to control and eventually eliminate the disease as a public health hazard from the entire African continent by the year 2002.

L'OMS (Organisation mondiale de la Santé) a lancé un nouvel et ambitieux programme : le programme africain de lutte contre l'onchocercose (PALO), en étroite coopération avec la Banque mondiale, les gouvernements des 16 pays participants où la maladie sévit mais qui n'étaient pas visés par le programme initial, un consortium de donateurs bilatéraux et des organisations non gouvernementales de développement (ONGD). Ce nouveau programme, qui est devenu opérationnel en janvier 1996, a pour objet de maîtriser et, finalement, d'éliminer la maladie en tant que risque pour la santé publique sur tout le continent africain d'ici l'an 2002.
