The Assembly of First Nations of Quebec and Labrador can be thought of as a Native version of the United Nations, on a much smaller scale, of course. It is the collective representative of the ten First Nations in Quebec. Addressing political issues that have an impact on the collective well-being of Native peoples in Quebec, the Assembly is made up of the Chiefs from each community within the ten First Nations in the province.

On compare l'Assemblée des Premières Nations du Québec et du Labrador (APNQL) à l'Organisation des Nations Unies, à plus petite échelle, bien sûr. L'APNQL est en effet le lieu de rencontre des 10 Premières Nations du Québec, c'est-à-dire de 43 communautés, chacune étant représentée par son chef. Cette assemblée étudie toute question d'intérêt commun et prend des décisions en conséquence. Elle s'intéresse, par exemple, aux politiques gouvernementales susceptibles d'avoir des répercussions sur les coutumes traditionnelles et les modes de vie des Premières Nations ainsi qu'aux causes judiciaires majeures ayant un impact sur leurs droits.
