The present document does not intend to review the whole literature existent on trade in services, but rather it attempts to present the diverse viewpoints from which the main conceptual topics can be analyzed. The document is composed of four parts. The first presents different ways to define services. The second section refers to international transactions in services, examining the existent literature on the categories of these transactions, the evolution that has had the concept of trade in services, and its process of internalization. The third part of the document reviews the basic principles that govern the liberalization. El presente documento no pretende revisar toda la literatura existente sobre el comercio de servicios, sino que busca presentar los diferentes ángulos desde los cuales se pueden enfocar los principales temas conceptuales referentes a este comercio según lo planteado por distintos autores. El documento se compone de cuatro partes. En la primera se exponen distintas posibilidades en cuanto a la definición de servicios. La segunda sección se refiere al tema de las transacciones internacionales de servicios, examinado lo que dice la literatura existente sobre las categorías de estas transacciones, la evolución que ha tenido el concepto de comercio de servicios a través del tiempo y, su proceso de internacionalización. La tercera parte del documento revisa los principios básicos que rigen la liberalización de los servicios tanto en lo referente a la no discriminación como a lo que concierne a los aspectos discriminatorios.
