English

Subject field(s)
  • Thermodynamics
  • Metrology and Units of Measure
  • Atmospheric Physics
  • Heat (Physics)
DEF

The metric system of temperature measurement [in which] 0° represents the freezing point of water and 100° its boiling point at 760-mm barometric pressure.

OBS

Formerly called Centigrade, the use of that name was abandoned by the General Conference on Weights and Measures in 1948. However, the word Centigrade remains in fairly common use.

Key term(s)
  • °C scale

Domaine(s)
  • Thermodynamique
  • Unités de mesure et métrologie
  • Physique de l'atmosphère
  • Chaleur (Physique)
OBS

Celsius [...].
