The International Geographical Union (IGU) is an international scientific union which was established in 1923. [...] One of the foremost objectives of any scientific union is communication between fellow scientists, and especially the dissemination of knowledge or recent developments in its field of interest. To foster such communication, the union creates commissions whose work can focus on specific areas of concern. One such body, the IGU Commission on Geographical Data Sensing and Processing, was established in 1968.
