The purpose of conflict of interest legislation is to protect the public interest by requiring each elected member to file, with the Commissioner, a disclosure document. From this document the Commissioner prepares an appropriate disclosure statement which is available for viewing by the public, at the Commissioner's Office, during normal business hours. Similar provisions to those existing in this province are in place in other jurisdictions across the country.
