Statistics Canada is currently collaborating with the provincial vital statistics registrars to identify deceased registrants in the Alberta cancer registry, through record linkage with the Canadian Mortality Data Base. (...) The accuracy of the searching will depend to a large extent on the amount of redundancy in such personal identifying particulars, as this is what enables the potentially matching records (i.e. death records with cancer records) to be correctly paired when some of the identifiers are wrongly reported or are discrepant for any other reason.
