The coordinated system of methods, techniques and facilities for making observations on a world-wide scale within the framework of the World Weather Watch.

OBS

The purpose of the Global Observing System (GOS) is to provide, from all parts of the globe and from outer space, high-quality, standardized observations of the state of the atmosphere and ocean surface. GOS comprises observing facilities at stations on land and at sea, and on aircraft, meteorological satellites and other platforms. These facilities are owned and operated by the 185 Member countries of WMO [World Meteorological Organization]. The GOS is the most important source of information on the atmosphere.
