In 1845, explorer Sir John Franklin set sail from England with two ships, HMS Erebus and HMS Terror, in search of a Northwest Passage across what is now Canada's Arctic. The ships and crews vanished and dozens of search expeditions set sail to try to find them. ... A second breakthrough happened in September 2016, when HMS Terror was found in Terror Bay, further north.

Le 19 mai 1845, le navire de Sa Majesté [...] Erebus et le navire de Sa Majesté Terror de la Marine royale ont quitté Greenhithe, en Angleterre, pour entreprendre en grandes pompes une expédition dans l'Arctique à la recherche du passage du Nord-Ouest. Sous le commandement de sir John Franklin et du capitaine Francis Rawdon Crozier, commandant adjoint, les deux navires de l'expédition prennent la mer avec à leur bord un équipage de 134 officiers et marins.
