The IAP is the new process to help former students settle their claims for abuse they suffered at Indian residential schools. The IAP replaces the former Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) program that was previously used to settle claims. The IAP compensates former students for sexual abuse, serious physical abuse and certain other wrongful acts which caused serious psychological consequences for the individual. This compensation is available in addition to the Common Experience Payment (CEP).

Le PEI est le nouveau processus visant à aider les anciens élèves à régler leurs réclamations pour les sévices qu'ils ont subis dans les pensionnats indiens. Le PEI remplace le Mode alternatif de règlement des conflits (MARC) qui était utilisé auparavant pour régler les réclamations. Le PEI indemnise les anciens élèves pour les abus sexuels, les violences physiques graves et certains autres actes fautifs ayant entraîné des conséquences psychologiques graves pour les victimes. Cette indemnité s'ajoute au Paiement d'expérience commune (PEC).
