The IDA was formed in 1916 at the request of the Canadian Government to assist in the financing of Canada's war effort. Dealers in Toronto and Montreal united to form the Association under the name, the Bond Dealers' Association of Canada. ... The Association's name was changed in 1925 to the Investment Bankers' Association of Canada and the present name was adopted following the 1934 Bank Act revision which restricted the use of the term "bank".

ACCOVAM a été créée en 1916 à la demande du gouvernement fédéral pour faciliter le financement de l'effort de guerre canadien. Des courtiers de Toronto et de Montréal se sont alors regroupés pour former l'Association canadienne des courtiers en obligations. [...] En 1925, l'Association prit le nom d'Association des banquiers en placement du Canada. A la suite de modifications apportées à la Loi sur les banques en 1934, et des restrictions relatives à l'utilisation du terme «banque», l'Association prit la dénomination actuelle de «Association canadienne des courtiers en valeurs mobilières».
