Résistance à l'usure par frottement réciproque et par chocs. On emploie surtout l'essai Mannheim. Le principe est le même que pour l'essai Deval, mais on opère sur 15 kg de matériaux auxquels on ajoute 8 boulets de fonte qui sont repris par des griffes soudées sur la paroi du cylindre et retombent sur la roche. On trace la courbe granulométrique avant et après essai, et on mesure la surface comprise entre les deux courbes [...] On obtient alors un coefficient de fragilité variant entre 400 et 200.
