A standard, originally developed by the Tandy and Microsoft corporations, for defining the minimum hardware platform capable of running multimedia software. The Multimedia PC logo (MPC) indicates compatibility between multimedia hardware and software.

L'utilisation de lecteurs de CD-ROM, lesquels permettent le stockage d'une quantité considérable de données (graphiques, fichiers sonores), nécessite un matériel important. Les cartes sonores et les lecteurs de CD-ROM ont été définis comme étant les éléments essentiels du PC multimédia. Le sigle MPC (Multimedia-PC) peut donc être considéré comme un label, qui peut être «apposé» sur tout PC remplissant les exigences fixées.
