Old Age Security (OAS) provides a basic income for persons aged 65 or over who meet certain residence requirements. Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS) is payable to OAS pensioners with little or no income other than OAS.

La Sécurité de la vieillesse assure un revenu de base aux personnes de 65 ans ou plus qui satisfont à certaines conditions de résidence. Le Supplément de revenu garanti est accordé aux pensionnés dont les revenus à part la SV sont faibles ou nuls. L'Allocation au conjoint est payable au conjoint d'un pensionné de la SV, âgé de 60 à 64 ans et dont le revenu est inférieur à certains niveaux; ces ménages sont donc assurés d'un revenu minimal équivalent à celui d'un couple de pensionnés recevant le SRG (Supplément de revenu garanti).
