Industry Canada. This directorate administers the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), which came into full effect on January 1, 2004. The directorate is responsible for providing policy guidance on matters related to private sector privacy, which includes providing advice to other government departments and agencies on the impact on privacy of various proposed administrative, regulatory or legislative measures.
