The Ottawa Hospital came to be on April 1, 1998, when the Health Services Restructuring Commission made a recommendation to amalgamate : - the Civic Hospital; the General Hospital; the Riverside Hospital programs from the Grace Hospital (Medical/Surgical); and Psychiatric Emergency Services from the Royal Ottawa Hospital.
