On peut employer actuellement dans les sols agricoles plusieurs méthodes de drainage : drainage par fossés, drainage par canalisations enterrées, drainage par techniques associées, drainage par modelé superficiel; certains terrains (étang mis en culture, mouillère) nécessitant cependant des techniques plus spécifiques... Les sols profonds (dont le substratum et perméables se drainent classiquement à l'aide de drains parallèles entre eux et raccordés à un collecteur.
