The science of the measurement of the physical dimensions of man, the range of movements of his articulations and the forces which he may exert.

Literally, anthropometry means the measurement of the body. In practice, anthropometry is concerned with the physical fit of the body in the workplace. [It is] concerned with fitting tools and workspaces to the dimensions of the human body. ... Knowing the distribution of shapes and sizes is the first step in anthropometric design. There are literally thousands of different measurements on the human body that are relevant to design of tools, workplaces, and even clothing.
