L'instrument POAM II est composé de trois modules dont un centre de contrôle électronique, une télémesure radiofréquence et une tête optique (OHA) comportant un senseur solaire et 9 canaux scientifiques à bandes spectrales étroites dans l'UV, le visible et le proche IR. La transmission atmosphérique est déterminée par comparaison du signal atténué avec celui mesuré hors atmosphère.
