A cryptographically-protected telecommunication channel is automatically authenticated. However, when it is necessary to authenticate beyond the cryptographically-protected channel, the appropriate COMSEC [Communications-electronic security] authority will specify a separate authentication method provided or approved by CSE [Communications Security Establishment].
