Due to the allowable rapid yaw rates of wind turbines with blade cyclic pitch variation, the two conventional separate control systems - yaw control for wind direction following and blade feathering control for regulating rotor speed and torque - can be replaced by a system with only a single control variable, the rotor yaw angle.

La régulation de puissance par mise en drapeau consiste à obliger les pales à pivoter autour de leur axe mécanique de façon à réduire l’angle d’attaque, donc le Cz et enfin le couple moteur. Cette réduction de l’angle d’attaque est obtenue par augmentation du calage (angle que fait la corde du profil avec le plan de rotation de l’hélice) moyen des pales.
