In a clinical trial, the concealing from the subjects and/or investigators of the identity of the persons receiving the interventions being studied and the control interventions (or standard care).

OBS

This method is intended to eliminate the possibility that knowledge of which intervention is being received will affect patient outcomes or investigator behaviours that may affect outcomes. Blinding is not always practical (e.g. when comparing surgery to drug treatment), but it should be used whenever it is possible and compatible with optimal patient care.

Elle n’est pas toujours réalisable (p. ex. lorsqu’on compare une intervention chirurgicale à un traitement médicamenteux), mais elle doit néanmoins être utilisée dans la mesure du possible et dans la mesure où elle est conciliable avec des soins optimaux.

Les expressions contenant le mot aveugle, abondamment utilisées, ont fait l’objet de mises en garde, notamment par Jammal, car il s’agit d’un calque de l’anglais. Il faut reconnaître qu’en double aveugle est maintenant lexicalisé dans le Petit Robert [...] Toutefois, le Flammarion, tout comme Jammal, privilégie toujours les expressions à l’insu et à double insu, avec raison, car l’utilisation du mot aveugle entraîne parfois des expressions quelque peu étranges (p. ex. : levée d’aveugle, l’aveugle doit être contrôlé tout au long de l’étude).

[Electronic privacy] ... the observer blinds the public keys, signs them with a special built-in key and gives them to the card. The card verifies the blinding and the signature and checks the keys to make sure they were correctly generated. It passes the blinded, signed keys to the validating authority, which recognizes the observer's built-in signature, removes it and signs the blinded keys with its own key. The authority passes the keys back to the card, which unblinds them. These keys, bearing the signature of the validating authority, serve as digital pseudonyms for future transaction.
