Brake bars ... a metal bar which slides into place on an ordinary carabiner. The rope then loops through the biner and binds across the bar. This brake bar ... subjects the ordinary carabiner to stresses it is not designed for.

Une des techniques du rappel les plus répandues est celle du rappel sur descendeur. Il existe plusieurs types de descendeurs et quelques accessoires d'assurage peuvent servir de descendeurs. L'appareil est relié au cuissard par un mousqueton. Ce type de rappel est doté d'une caractéristique plaisante -- le fait qu'il n'y a pas d'usure ni de vêtements ni de corps quand on utilise le descendeur pour effectuer le freinage.
