The evaporated water and injected steam for atomization along with the gaseous products from calcination would be exhausted to a ceramic candle filter where particulates would be removed from the hot gases, and then processed similar to vitrification off-gas treatment. The solids removed from the ceramic filter would be collected with the solids from the calciner for further processing and compaction.

Candle filters ... Degrémont pre-coat filters consist of a cylindrical vessel with dished ends, fitted internally with a number of candles fixed to a support plate and arranged vertically.

Les filtres à bougies. Les bougies sont constituées d'un cylindre creux perforé vertical entouré d'une gaine constituée d'un empilement de rondelles métalliques. Le filtrat s'écoule dans la bougie et est évacué vers le haut. Les boues sont évacuées dans le bas de l'enceinte. Ces filtres (comme les filtres à plateaux) peuvent être utilisés avec des pressions importantes (6 bar) et acceptent des débits de l'ordre de 500 L/h/m², mais ils occupent beaucoup de place pour une surface de filtration donnée.
