CARGO CULT n.m. (pl. cargo cults) : Croyance millénariste mélanésienne selon laquelle arrivera un jour un fantastique bateau européen, contenant tous les biens matériels qui manquent, tous les objets imaginaires venant d'une société considérée comme supérieure.

OBS

Cette croyance est liée à la présence des Blancs, tantôt considérée comme souhaitable, tantôt regardée avec horreur au profit d'une autre civilisation à venir, apportant bien-être et bonheur. Le cargo cult est sans doute issu du souvenir des bases américaines implantées pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale.
