English

Subject field(s)
  • Biological Sciences
DEF

Solution in which the ratio of solvent to solute changes from one region to another in a defined manner. A continuous gradient is formed by mixing a concentrated solution with a less concentrated solution, or pure solvent, in a continuous manner. A stepwise gradient is produced by layering a series of gradually less concentrated solutions one above the other in a suitable container, often a centrifuge tube.

CONT
