On trouvera ainsi des appareils photo détectives de type «box», ou «chambre détective», des appareils photo détectives dissimulés sous un manteau, dans un colis ou dans le pommeau d'une canne, etc. Il faut aussi souligner que ces appareils, dont la technologie remonte à la fin du dix-neuvième siècle, ont été remplacés par les caméras et appareils photo modernes exploitant les techniques laser et infrarouges.
