A management process that is designed to maximise efficiency of production processes while minimising negative environmental impact [and that] can be achieved by using new technology, using fewer inputs per unit of product such as energy and water, recycling more and reducing toxic emissions.

eco-efficiency: ... a management approach developed by the WBCSD [World Business Council on Sustainable Development]. Put in simple terms, eco-efficiency - combination of the words economic and ecological efficiency - is all about producing more from less. It aims to create economic value while ameliorating impact and resource use.

[...] on atteint l'écoefficacité en offrant, à prix concurrentiels, des produits et des services qui répondent aux besoins des êtres humains et qui accentuent la qualité de vie tout en réduisant progressivement les impacts écologiques et l'intensité des ressources tout au long de leur cycle de vie, à un niveau qui correspond au moins à la capacité estimative du globe. L'écoefficacité comporte sept éléments : réduction des matières utilisées pour fournir les produits et les services; réduction de l'énergie nécessaire pour les produits et services; diminution des émissions toxiques; amélioration de la recyclabilité des matières; utilisation durable maximale des ressources renouvelables; prolongation de la durée de vie des produits; et augmentation de l'aspect service des produits et services.
