Le GIE est un instrument dont l'utilisation s'envisage dans le cadre d'une « joint venture ». Il peut s'analyser comme une forme de coopération intermédiaire entre la société d'une part, et l'association, d'autre part. Tout en possédant l'avantage comme la société de la pleine capacité juridique et en permettant une coopération par le biais d'une entité unique, le GIE offre en même temps la souplesse de l'association : moins de formalités de constitution et moins de rigidité dans les règles de fonctionnement, plus grande liberté contractuelle[...].
