La principale contribution de non-linéarité est due à l'oscillation de relaxation du laser DFB à 1 550 nm. Elle engendre les distorsions du deuxième ordre intrinsèques typiques. On l'améliore dans l'émetteur optique en utilisant un circuit de compensation MA-CSO électrique. Une technique d'antéroaction électrique sert à produire un CSO d'amplitude identique mais de phase opposée à celui des lasers DFB (annulation de CSO).
