A disease of cereals caused by the fungus Pseudocercosporella herpotrichoides. Initially a dark smudge appears on the outer leaf-sheath, then an oval "eye-chaped" lesion develops near the base of the plant, weakening the stem and heading to increasing susceptibility to lodging (i.e. being laid flat by weather).

Diagnóstico: Mancha ocular, mancha en ojo, mancha anillada del maíz o “eyespot”, ocasionada por Kabatiella zeae Narita & Y. Hiratsuka Syn. Aureobasidium zeae (Narita & Y. Hiratsuka) Dingley. Sintomatología: Las hojas se caracterizaban por poseer lesiones translucidas, circulares a ovales (1–5 mm de diámetro) con un halo amarillento; algunas manchas pueden coalescer formando lesiones más grandes, oscuras constituyendo grandes áreas necróticas. Esto produce el secado anticipado de las hojas. Inicialmente las lesiones se observan de tipo acuoso, luego toman un color castaño claro en el centro, rodeada por un anillo de color marrón, púrpura o negro con un halo amarillo y apariencia de un ojo. Los síntomas también se observaron en vainas foliares, tallos y espigas.
