Fabric-reinforced earth walls. Similar to the previous case histories involving continuous sheets of fabric to construct earth walls and earth dams, the use of narrow fabric strips provides reinforcement in the same manner. This scheme then duplicates the use of metal strips in conventional reinforced earth walls. In addition to lower cost, the fabric strips have the additional advantages of being noncorrosive under almost any environmental situation and of developing full friction between the strips and the sol.

Terre armée : Matériau composite obtenu par l'association de terre et d'armatures tendues; ces armatures sont le plus souvent des bandes métalliques horizontales, assez larges pour mobiliser les efforts de frottement nécessaires à l'adhérence terre-armature. La terre armée est utilisée à la réalisation de soutènement souples assimilables à des murs-poids.

Le géotextile joue ponctuellement un rôle d'armature et de liaison entre les grains; la présence d'une nappe continue permet de diffuser et répartir les contraintes locales. Comme exemples, nous citerons: les remblais renforcés, les talus renforcés, les remblais à paroi verticale, les barrages en terre renforcée, les pistes de chantier.
