Dans le cadre du procédé de flottation, l'épuration s'effectue dans le triturateur. On y introduit des produits chimiques qui favorisent la formation de mousse et la floculation des pigments d'encre. On aère ensuite la suspension dans une série de cellules de flottation, ce qui fait monter les flocs de pigments d'encre à la surface où ils sont écumés.
