Geocaching is a recreational activity that centers around searching for small hidden containers (usually in outdoor public areas). Containers are hidden by people who mark the locations using a GPS [global positioning system] receiver and then post coordinates so the containers can be found by others.

On assiste à une expansion phénoménale des activités de repérage (géocachette, recherche de boîtes aux trésors et courses d'orientation). Depuis sa création en 2000, 154 000 géocachettes ont été établies dans 214 pays - nombre qui double tous les dix mois.
