A type of bedding in which each layer displays a gradual and progressive change in particle size, usually from coarse at the base of the bed to fine at the top.

Lorsque le milieu de transport se décante, les matériaux les plus gros atteignent le fond avant les plus fins. Aussi trouve-t-on, dans les sédiments qui apparaissent, les matériaux les plus grossiers à la base et les plus petits à la partie haute du dépôt. C'est ce qu'on appelle le classement vertical progressif ou granuloclassement.
