In response to follow-up questions from the Commission on the practice of disposing the pond water in the test mine shaft, CNSC staff expressed the view that, although the rate of pumping to the shaft must be regulated periodically to prevent overflow, the practice does not pose a significant risk to the environment, including with respect to groundwater flow or quality.
