The antibody to the e antigen of hepatitis B virus. It normally develops during or after the convalescent phase of the disease and signals the elimination of e antigen from the circulation. It does not develop after immunization with hepatitis B vaccine.

Hépatite à virus B. (...) Trois marqueurs sont détectables en cas de guérison : l'anticorps anti-HBs (Ac anti-HBs), l'anticorps anti-HBe (Ac anti-HBe) et l'anticorps anti-HBc (Ac anti-HBc). L'anticorps anti-HBc est donc présent aussi bien en cas d'infection que de guérison; cet anticorps est de classe IgM en cas d'infection récente et de classe IgG en cas de guérison.
