A condition due to an increase in the secretion of the parathyroids, causing elevated serum calcium, decreased serum phosphorus, and increased excretion of both calcium and phosphorus, calcium stones and sometimes generalized osteitis fibrosa cystica.

Maladie endocrinienne due à une augmentation anormale de la parathormone (PTH) par une ou plusieurs glandes parathyroïdes.

OBS

Les glandes parathyroïdes, au nombre de quatre, sont situées derrière la glande thyroïde, à la base du cou. Elles secrètent la PTH qui contrôle les taux du calcium et de phosphore dans l’organisme. Dans l'hyperparathyroïdie, il existe une augmentation anormale du taux de calcium dans le sang.
