Ice meter ... Objective methods of the icing measurements are based on the icing weight determination related to the unit of area (in meteorology) or to the unit of length (in power supply). The hard rime was determined with the aid of the so-called icing meter bars. They were represented by two wooden bars of 32 mm diameter and 1 m length, i.e. the surface area equals 0,1 m² per 1 bar. Bars were placed horizontally and perpendicularly to each other. First of them was oriented in north - south direction, the second east - west. The amount of water was measured and result recalculated to kg.m-². These ice meter bars made possible quite reliable evaluation of the icing without having the continual measurement. Nevertheless they are not used contemporary in the meteorological service. 3, record 1, English, - ice%20meter

Ice-accretion indicators are as capable of measuring freezing drizzle as freezing rain. They are not designed to measure wet snow nor in-cloud icing. Measurements of other types of atmospheric icing are not included in our statistics. 4, record 1, English, - ice%20meter

5, record 1, French, - glacim%C3%A8tre

Weather observations at Gander are taken from two locations. The primary observation site is located on the roof of the terminal building; a second observation site is located at ground level about 200 feet from the terminal building. When freezing precipitation is present or suspected, weather observers use an ice accretion indicator composed of a small piece of aluminum alloy similar to that found in aircraft structure. It is placed outside at the observation site and inspected for the presence of freezing precipitation at each observation. Mandatory weather observations are taken every 30 minutes, at the hour and half hour. When freezing precipitation is present, the indicator is removed and a new one installed at each mandatory observation. Prior to installation, the indicator is pre-cooled to ambient temperature. Thus, when observed at the next observation following installation, the indicator shows the type and quantity of freezing precipitation which occurred in the previous 30 minutes. 2, record 2, English, - ice%20accretion%20indicator

Freezing fog may not always deposit rime or glaze on the "Ice Accretion Indicator", however if rime or glaze are evident, it positively indicates the presence of super-cooled water droplets and thus freezing rain, freezing drizzle or freezing fog is occurring. Freezing fog creates a significant risk of airframe icing and is therefore very important operational information for forecasters, pilots, flight service specialists, observers, communicators and others. 3, record 2, English, - ice%20accretion%20indicator

1, record 2, French, - indicateur%20d%27accumulation%20de%20glace
