Record 1 2021-07-14

English

Subject field(s)
  • Oil and Natural Gas Extraction
DEF

A well employed for the introduction ... of water, gas or other fluids under pressure [into an underground stratum].

CONT

... an injection well is not placed on production or injection unless the annulus between the production casing and tubing is effectively isolated from the completion interval ...

OBS

Injection wells are used to maintain or restore pressure in a reservoir.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Extraction du pétrole et du gaz naturel
DEF

Record 2 2011-06-06

English

Subject field(s)
  • Water Treatment (Water Supply)
DEF

Well to inject waters, usually under pressure, into a porous soil on rock aquifer. The waters may be treated wastewaters or surface waters injected for aquifer replenishment, or may be waters injected into unusable aquifers as a means of disposal of the wastes.

DEF

A well used for the injection of waste water or other fluids into the subsurface. Because the wastes rarely degrade to an innocuous condition but are simply stored, they are not truly disposed of; hence, this term is preferred to waste-disposal well.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Traitement des eaux
DEF

Puits absorbant servant à l'évacuation d'eau usée, d'effluents dans le sous-sol.

OBS

Distinguished from an infiltration well.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Hydrologie et hydrographie
DEF

Puits de recharge pénétrant un aquifère et servant à l'injection directe d'eau.

OBS

Se distingue d'un puits d'infiltration.

Record 4 2001-12-24

English

Subject field(s)
  • Waste Management
  • Nuclear Waste Materials
DEF

A well or borehole into which corrosive or otherwise dangerous liquids can be injected and left for disposal.

CONT

There are two forms of injection into deep geologic formations that have been suggested or used for LLW [low-level radioactive wastes] disposal: hydrofracture and deep well injection. Both methods are primarily useful only for liquid or finely ground wastes. They both take precautions to prevent contaminating useful aquifers by carefully selecting the geologic formations into which the waste is injected.

OBS
