Les vannes de décharge sont placées à proximité des entrées d'air et sur la rampe d'admission afin de régulariser la pression d'air admis dans le réacteur et éviter les surpressions dans l'étage HP lorsqu'il fonctionne au ralenti ou pendant le roulage au sol, lorsque la pression d'air nécessaire au bon fonctionnement est minimale.
