Tapes and mechanical seams are much simpler than the types described above and might suffice in certain situations where complete watertightness is not necessary. Single-sided tapes can be applied over the edge of the seam, while double-sided tapes can be used between sheets to be joined. Various types of clamping systems have also been devised which can be attractive in certain circumstances. Sewn seams subsequently waterproofed by a suitable liquid have also been used.
