[Le] vent de terre [...] dont le clapot qu'il provoque éventuellement va vers le large ce qui ne lui permet pas de créer de turbulence à la côte. En règle générale, le vent de terre est beaucoup moins fort, en un lieu donné, que le vent de mer, parce qu'il a été constamment freiné par la rugosité des paysages terrestres. Il n'a de vigueur véritable qu'en pays désertique, où il est généralement lié aux alizés. Le vent de terre, quand il est assez vigoureux, éloigne de la côte les eaux superficielles et provoque l'«upwelling».
