Gyromètre laser [...] Un système d'électrodes ionise un milieu gazeux, dans un tube capillaire très rigide, souvent triangulaire. L'ensemble optique avec des miroirs à chaque changement de direction oriente un système d'ondes de résonance qui se propage dans un gaz. En sortie il se produit des franges d'interférences et un codeur optoélectronique analyse le système des franges.

À Champagnat se trouve une usine d'électronique de pointe, CODECHAMP qui fabrique des codeurs opto-électroniques (qui réagissent en fonction de la lumière). Ces codeurs servent à l'industrie spatiale et à l'armement.
