Subject field(s)
  • Optical Glass
DEF

A glass that darkens when exposed to light but regains its original transparency a few minutes after light is removed; the rate of clearing increases with temperature.

OBS

The term "light-sensitive glass" is a generic that comprises "photochromic glass" and "photosensitive glass". The former darkens on exposure to sunlight and fades when light is removed. Eyeglasses of this glass automatically adjust to the surrounding light level. The latter changes from clear to opal glass on exposure to ultraviolet rays followed by heat. (cf. AMERI 77-12-792).

CONT
