Avec un pentaprisme, l'image reçue sur le verre dépoli subit une double réflexion sur deux des faces du prisme. Un oculaire à lentille grossissante donne une image redressée horizontalement et verticalement. Dans certains reflex, l'oculaire a une puissance calculée, avec une focale normale, pour donner du sujet une image en grandeur réelle. Ce dispositif facilite la visée.
