Le pyricon est un vidicon pyroélectrique qui élimine le scintillement par traitement différentiel des images. La pyroélectricité est un phénomène propre aux cristaux non centrosymétriques (cibles pyroélectriques) présentant une polarisation spontanée. Dans un vidicon, le pinceau électronique explore les variations de potentiel et charge la lame pyroélectrique afin de rétablir une équipotentielle au potentiel approximatif de la cathode. C'est le dépôt de la charge qui constitue le vidéosignal.
